Near-endemic

A species is said to be near-endemic if most of its population is restricted to a specific place. As with the term endemic the place needs to be specified.

The the Short-toed Rock-thrush is described a near-endemic species to southern Africa (the part of the continent south of the Zambesi and Kunene Rivers). Most of its distribution is within southern Africa, but it just sneaks across the Namibia’s northern border into the southwestern corner of Angola,
