Megan is our communications and citizen science projects coordinator. She also coordinates OdonataMAP, the Atlas of African Odonata, a citizen science project run by the Freshwater Research Centre and funded by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation. She also coordinated LepiMAP, the Atlas on African Lepidoptera. Megan is passionate about biodiversity conservation and a firm believer in the power of citizen science and getting the public involved in nature conservation. She has written many articles and presented workshops on these topics.
She is a great lover of the outdoors and has spent a big chunk of her childhood and adult life camping in the African bush. She obtained her BSc in Environmental & Conservation Sciences with distinction through the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. After moving back to South Africa in 2011 she went on to complete her MSc in Zoology at the University of Cape Town, and most recently her PhD, looking at the impacts of bush encroachment on bird distributions in the savanna biome of South Africa.
