Ringing – food

All food will be provided during the bird ringing / bird banding expedition. If you have any special dietary requirements or allergies that we should be aware of, please let us know at the time of booking.

We find that food is crucial aspect of these expeditions. Food must be festive and social, and for that reason, we try to incorporate a collaborative effort in the preparation of meals during the Fynbos expedition. During the Bushveld expedition, meals will be catered by the lodge.

Tea and coffee will be available throughout the expedition. For the Fynbos Expedition, alcoholic beverages can be purchased when we meet you at the airport – we will take the group to a suitable store for the purchase of these items on the way to the site. For the Bushveld Expedition, all alcoholic beverages will only be available for purchase from the lodge.

Breakfasts and lunches will be provided on a self-serve basis. Breakfasts will consist of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, and toast. Lunches will be sandwiches, platters, salads, or similar self-serve options. Dinners on the Fynbos expedition will be prepared collaboratively by expedition members.

Our Fynbos site is located in the heart of South Africa’s winelands, and we will make an excursion to another wine farm and winery in the area for a wine tasting. The farm on which most of our ringing will occur is also a boutique winery, and wine from the vineyards you’ll be living amongst will be available for tasting and purchase.
